Today's repair (and a hunch)

Having great faith in Aaron, I can expect the new cable at the end of this week, or on Monday depending on how fast (or slow) the delivery guy drives.

So I went ahead and removed the old speedometer cable. And oh what a feat it was. First off, my car is stranded in the shed (more on that in a second), so I can't work on it in my usual, level location. I couldn't jack it up because it sits too close to the ground for the jack to slide under it. Using the clutch interlock button behind the pedal, I used the starter motor to power the car up on ramps. Then began the real fun.

Using twine as a trail of bread crumbs, I pulled the cable out from front to back, the twine acting as a reminder to me of where the cable is supposed to go. It dips under and over, around and around through underbody pieces and between unidentified tubes. After about an hour of being under the car, wriggling my arm between the engine and firewall (covering my arm in grease), it was all done. Putting it back together should actually be a bit easier - knock on wood.

EDIT: I'm going to hold out on my hunch about the fuel pump. There's just too many other variables right now, especially without an instrument panel. Once I get that re-installed, I'll be able to see if there are any check engine codes or if my fuel gauge is just on "E".
