Repair 4: The brakes

Okay, so earlier I said that I was going to repair the parking brake cable, thinking that it was just binding due to rust. Well, upon checking things out, it appears that the right rear caliper is frozen shut. Obviously, some WD-40 and elbow grease probably won't repair things. After checking everything else out, all I will need is a new caliper (as rebuilding calipers isn't worth the effort), and at the same time I'll replace the brake pads with a new pair that I have lying around. That'll make both rear pads at nearly the same condition (my left rear pads were changed just before my mission due to a locked caliper).

In the meantime, I decided to get to work disassembling the front brake assemblies so that when my parts arrive, I can quickly bolt them on.

It took about 30 minutes per side, minus the time I used to take pictures or find a breaker bar. Unfortunately, I broke one of the sliding bolts to the caliper. So that will take some extracting a bit later.

Otherwise, things went surprisingly well, and now I'm just waiting for the UPS guy to bring me the goodies.

Pictures:
1. The troublesome RF brake
2. Compress the piston, remove the two long slider bolts, and the caliper slides off the pads with a little pry.
3. The two bolts securing the rotor assembly. Remove them and then beat the rotor vigorously with a rubber mallet while simultaneously grunting like your caveman ancestors.
4. Everything disassembled.
5. My old brake pads: worn, rusty, looking like they were used to stop Roman chariots.
