After four hours of wrestling wires, cables, and mice, the speedometer cable has been installed and is functional.
The dashboard is all back together.
And the car starts and runs (a blown fuse was the culprit).
UPDATE: I took advantage of the 1.5 hours the town clerk was open today to get the car registered. I got new license plates because apparently mine are "too old to re-register." It has only been 6 years since I got them. Oh well, they'll go on the wall on the shed. Vehicle registration fees (taxes) have increased considerably since I left on my mission. But once again, there's not much to do about it. I'll try to get Tom (my mechanic) to squeeze me in for an early morning inspection tomorrow, then hopefully I'll be done and legal.
Edit: I forgot to mention a small new problem - no temperature gauge. I'm guessing the connector in the engine worked itself loose, as I was checking it out not too long ago. So I'm off to troubleshoot that, and put on a new windshield wiper.
